Thanksgiving 2010

2010 was one of the most difficult years my husband, I, and so many of our friends have went through. With so many life changes, an economy that's alway struggling, the constant wonder of job security, and the worry over our medical system which touched too close to home recently; it has been truly difficult to find something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Then, despite all, I see a flash of something on the news that makes my problems feel and look much smaller. It's a sham it sometimes takes someone else's tragedy to make us grateful, but that does seem to be the case.

This year I will celebrate the wonderful family, friends, and loved ones that I am fortunate enough to have in my life. I may not see them everyday, but always know they are with me. Happy Thanksgiving!

Black Friday or Cyber Monday

Is there a preference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday? Which offers the better deals and time savings? I myself prefer the online world of Cyber Monday. While it may be tradition for some to wait in line for hours in the cold before a store opens, I don't really get it. With the continuous promises of 10%, 20%, 50%, up to 75% percent off on both special shopping days, which one really saves you time and money. I suppose if you live in a city, with store after store in a row, getting a large selection at the best prices would be quick and easy making Black Friday a good option. Outside of a city, you may have to drive for miles just to find variety at a good price. After spending all that time in the car, paying for gas, and a meal out; Cyber Monday may be a better choice. Which ever way you choose to save money and time this Christmas shopping season, you are sure to get a good deal.

Gift Giving Season... or Scrooged

Will this Holiday gift giving season be naughty or nice?! Will bah humbug make us all feel like a Scrooge this year. All the surveys are pointing to online sales beating out brick and mortar. As an owner of a small family operated retail website, I'm wondering if they are including us. With everything turning into the Wally-Mart world, I'm not really sure how we will be able to compete. Small online businesses tend to rely on organic searches to pop up in Google because we do not have such deep pockets. Larger online retailers just buy their way to the top. Supposedly the world of organic searches is all fair, but I'm not really sure. While I myself will avoid places like Wally-Mart and prefer to pay a little extra somewhere else, not everyone can do that. Some of us just can't afford it, and others only have one choice after so many local businesses have gone under.
